LEARN (Literacy, Education, and Resource Network) - began in Tucson, Arizona in 1988.
Pima County Adult Probation has three Tucson offices. Each location supports a LEARN center.
- LEARN has the distinction of being the first in-house adult education program in a probation setting in the nation.
- LEARN has served as a model for many community-based correctional adult and juvenile education programs.
- LEARN has credibility. Pima County Adult Probation became the first probation department in Arizona to stipulate education as a condition of probation.
- LEARN – Arizona has more than thirty LEARN centers.
- Enrollment is open to everyone in the community at no cost. Judges and probation officers make referrals when probationers need basic education or a high school equivalency diploma. Students are also referred to LEARN from the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Child Protective Services, and state and federal rehabilitation programs. Many students are from the community and enroll voluntarily. For most students, their goal is to pass GED examination
